Being familiar with the ins and outs of your home electrical system does not always suffice. Having the knowledge is no guarantee that you can perform electrical jobs well, safely and properly. The most important and vital qualities for dealing with electrical problems are skill and experience. Electricity is not for a neophyte to practice, as it involves risk and damage. The potential hazards are too great for your property and for the lives of your loved ones. When you pay for an electrician you pay for your safety and the assurance that the work has been carried out in the best possible way.
An electrician rates may vary, but may amount to $100 per hour, or even more. Because of the high costs, many people opt for the DIY option, and in doing so tend to overlook the fact that any electrical job is bound by a specific code. Performing an electrical job which does no adhere to the electrical code is punishable by law. If the job you carried out culminates in fire, you will not be covered by insurance precisely because the task in question was not performed by a licensed electrician and violated the formal regulations.
